Every year for my mom's birthday my dad and I take an entire day and go to the mall in search of the perfect present. Normally moms are pretty low-key and easy to shop for, but the older my mom gets, the more stuff she accumulates. This past year has been really hectic for me. Everything is changing so fast. Even the day to day weather is unpredictable! The transition from being in school to being in the "real world" has been, to say the least, interesting...

Since I've been back from school, I've been working harder on improving myself, trying to stay positive and taking better care of myself and the people around me.

I'm really into music. For me, music is a great way to externalize my feelings. There's nothing like screaming All American Reject lyrics when you're ticked off or chilling out to Bob Dylan while you're getting ready for work in the morning. My favorite is making summer playlists of really happy upbeat songs.

One song that I love is "You're My Best Friend" by Queen. This song just makes me so happy and whenever I hear it, I think of my best friend. He radiates an incredible positive energy and never fails to be optimistic. He's the type of person that makes you wants to be a better person. I think good friends are really important and letting them know how special they are is equally as important. My friends are my pillars of strength and I would be nothing without them.

I don't really need an occasion to tell my friends how awesome they are because they are awesome ALL the time. All the men in my life LOVE to golf. My dad, brothers and fiance all love to get out on the course and hit some birdies [not real one's of course!]. I'm a beginner. Just getting my feet wet. I played my first 9 hole course last summer and got my first golf bag for Christmas. I definitely like the sport, it just takes A LOT of patience, which sometimes I don't have. A Unique Baby Shower Gift

In my circle of friends and family, this is a BIG year for pregnancy. I know three people who are pregnant and oddly enough are due within 3 months of each other. Congrats Grad!

My brother is a senior in college and is graduating this May. Being a recent grad myself, I can understand what an exciting, scary, and fulfilling moment it can be all at once. Because his school is too far away for most of the family to attend the actual ceremony, I thought it would be a cool idea to do something special for him to let him know how proud we all are (even if not everyone is there cheering him on). I came up with a unique personalized gift idea that I thought I'd share...

I decided to help my mom out by creating the invitations for the event. Most college grads-to-be, if not all, take a cap and gown photo early in the year. My brother already had his done (for the yearbook). I decided to take this photo and make a photo magazine cover. The front cover would highlight all of his favorite activities and accomplishments, while the back cover would serve as a place to put the party information such as place, time, RSVP, etc.

Here's how I made my invite!

1. It's very important that you have a good quality photo when you make a cover because the higher the resolution, the better the cover. The graduation picture I used was an actual photo print so I took it to my local printing store to have it scanned. If you have a scanner, you can of course do it yourself. In both cases, make sure that the pictures are scanned at the highest resolution possible.

2. Go to www.YourCover.com and Sign Up for an account. An account is great because you can start working on a cover, save it, and then come back to finish it later on if you don't have time to do it all at once.
